You say you love me, no one above me,
You say you can’t stop thinking about me
You say you love me, no one besides me,
You say your world revolves around me,
You say you love me, nobody like me,
You say you love me, I say, oh my!
You say you love me, so you call me
To ask me what am wearing
But not to find out how I’m faring,
You ask about my cup size
But neglect my heart’s cries
You ask about what turns me on
But deny what keeps me strong
It’s always my eyes, my lips, my hair,
never my dreams or burdens do you share
You say you love, no one above me,
You say for me, you are ready to die
I say, oh please, that line I can’t buy!
And let me tell you a few reasons why
You’re never there to share my pain,
But ever near when I make a gain
You want the glitz, the glamour, the glory,
Without first sharing the story
You want to buy the package
Boy you can’t afford the content
Plus a real man won’t demand for mere minutes of pleasure
He’ll offer instead a LIFETIME of treasure!
But you say you love me, no one above me,
You say “Baby, after you is nothingness”
I say the talk without the walk is emptiness
Love without sacrifice is selfishness
Emotion without decision and action: meaningless!!!
Your feelings are nothing but lust
In the storms of life they’ll rust
Blown by the winds of time, like dust
Set my face like a flint, I must
As your infatuated bubbles, I bust:
You say you love me, no one above me
You say you love me, no one besides
You say you love me, nobody like me?
You say you LOVE me? I say, you LIE!!!
A prize-winning spoken word piece, this poem was both my opening performance and my Slam Champion encore, on the night I became the first female two-time Abuja Poetry Slam Champion, by winning the 1st Quarter Abuja Poetry Slam 2012, organized by the Abuja Literary Society (ALS).
